GENERAL RULES

The competition is open to young people under 30 years of age.

The participation is free.

Theme of the XIIth Edition

“The gesture and the genesis”

(Creativity and Creation in life, Thinking, Nature Arts…The suggestions may be developed absolutely free)

One can participate to one or more sections

I. SECTION: UNPUBLISHED POEMS

  • Participants may send only one unpublished and never awarded poem (40 line).
  • Will be accepted poems in the mother tongue of the author. It is also required to send a translation in one language among English, Spanish, French or Italian (the choice between those being on the author).
  • An international Jury will evaluate the poems, taking into account – when possible – also the version in the author’s mother tongue.

In order to be considered, works must be received within November 10th, 2015. They must be submitted:

a)Preferably by E-Mail to valeragabriella@gmail.com.

attached to the message in Format word or rft.

b) via regular mail, to: Prof. Gabriella Valera Gruber – Via Matteotti 21 – 34138, Trieste (Italy)

In this case, applications must be postmarked by November 10th. In any case, no work arriving after the jury has started its evaluation process (a few days after the deadline) will be take into account.

Prizes and awards:

  • First, Second and Third Prize: € 500 each. In accordance with the aim of the competition to combine solidarity and poetry, the winners will choose a humanitarian cause to which they’ll donate part of the prize (€ 200);
  • Medal of the President of Italian Republic for a poem with a particular social-humanitarian value;
  • “Sergio Penco” Plate for the best poem by an author “under 16”;
  • Cups or other minor prizes for other noteworthy poems.

Ø The awarded poems, along with a selection of other works, will be published for free by “Ibiskos Publishing House Risolo” (Empoli, Italy), one of the competition’ sponsors, in both Italian and English version together with a CD containing the original versions. The proceeds from the sales will be donated to the Luchetta-Ota-D’Angelo-Hrovatin Foundation for children victims of war (www.fondazioneluchetta.org ).

  • Special mentions and minor prizes for noteworthy poems of young poets “under 16”.

II. SECTION: THEATRE – Monologue or Dialogue between 2 characters

1 unpublished and never awarded dramatic play, 5 pages max. (no more than 10,000 characters, spaces included). A good translation into Italian is unconditionally required. The works will not be evaluated in their original language but only in their Italian translation. Works must be submitted within November 10th, 2015.  They must be submitted:

Prizes and awards

The jury will designate three winners (who will be awarded with cups and plates) and reserves the right of selecting other dramas of special value. The best plays will be performed in an important city theatre in the frame of the awarding ceremony

II. SECTION: SCHOOL PROJECTS

Deadline: December 31st, 2015.

The jury will designate the best poetry projects presented as a collective work by schools (students and teachers).

Prizes and awards

  • 1st prize: € 500, that will be eventually donated to an humanitarian scope chosen by the awarded students and teachers;
  • ·      other minor prizes.

A whole day of readings and performances will be reserved in an important location of the city to those schools / groups, among those whose works will be awarded or considered as noteworthy, that will attend the awarding ceremony in Trieste. Students will be given the opportunity to read their poems, while teachers will be given that of displaying their projects. The official award will be given to the teachers during the awarding ceremony at the Castle of Duino.

In this case, applications must be postmarked by December 31. In any case, no work arriving after the jury has started its evaluation process (a few days after the deadline) will be take into account;

b) possibly also a copy via e-mail, to: castelloduinopoesia@gmail.com.

PUBLICATION OF THE RESULTS

The list of the winners will be published in the website of the competition: www.castellodiduinopoesia.org. Winners will be informed by e-mail, phone or regular mail. The awarding ceremony will take place on March 20, 2016, at the Castle of Duino (Italy).
